It all started in 1994, when the company Convekta in Russia (later known as ChessOk) created the CT-ART brand — short for Chess Tactics Art. Over the years, countless grandmasters and international masters were asked how they became so strong, and many credited the CT-ART courses as a key part of their training.
Since its creation, new versions of the software have been released. In 2008, teaming up with Chess King, the courses were significantly improved — with features such as full checking of all variations, partial credit for near-correct answers, and unique 5×5 hint puzzles. They were also adapted to run on all modern computer and mobile platforms.
CT-ART 6.0 (released in 2010) became the largest tactics collection available, with over 10,000 exercises for players of all levels, from beginner to master — making it the most widely used chess tactics package in the world.
Twelve years later, Chess King refined these exercises and added another 10,000 puzzles, bringing the total to 20,000 exercises across 10 complete tactics courses.
And now, in 2024, we’ve added 10 brand-new tactics courses — ensuring you can progress from absolute beginner to accomplished chess master. The 20 courses in total are unmatched in the areas of tactics and defense.

Level 1 – Chess Tactics for Beginners (ELO 200–1400; 1200+ puzzles)
The critically acclaimed chess training program (previously called Chess Tactics for Beginners 2.0) based on the bestseller by experienced coach Sergey Ivashchenko, which became the chess publishing leader and sold over 200,000 copies. All exercises are classified by theme and difficulty.
Level 2 – Elementary Chess Tactics 1 (ELO 1000–1400; 5000+ puzzles)
Every beginning chess player needs to study simple tactical methods and learn how to employ them. This course (previously called Elementary Chess Combinations) includes more than 5,000 exercises for beginners on tactics such as fork, pin, double check, discovered check, annihilation of the opponent’s king defense, and exploiting a back (1st) rank weakness.
Level 3 – Chess Tactics Art (For Beginners, ELO 1400–1600; 150 examples, 1500 puzzles)
Introduces you to typical chess combinations and develops your playing skills. Exercises are classified according to more than 30 tactical methods and motifs.
Level 4 – CT-ART. Chess Mate Theory (ELO 1400–2000; 1200 examples, 700 puzzles)
An excellent course for club players by Victor Khenkin (previously called CT-ART. Mating Combinations), illustrating the peculiarities of using certain pieces in mating combinations. Includes a built-in hint system.
Level 5 – CT-ART 4.0 (Chess Tactics 1200–2400 ELO; 2,200 exercises and 1,800 auxiliary exercises)
The legendary tactics course based on the bestselling book Combination Motifs by GM Maxim Blokh. Positions are hand-picked over 20 years of training practice and arranged for maximum learning efficiency. Includes a unique 5×5 mini-position hint for each example.

Mate in 2 (Chess Puzzles) – 19,000 exercises from master games, training attack and mate in 2 moves. Excellent for beginners and club players.
Mate in 3–4 (Chess Puzzles) – Over 2,500 exercises for mating in 3 or 4 moves. Develops calculation and creativity.
Art of Defense – 3,500 exercises teaching defensive skills: moving away from attack, defending with another piece, capturing, intercepting, and defending against mate.
Beginner Tactics Themes 1 – 2,400 exercises on “Clearing,” “Decoying,” and “Opening.” All puzzles unique to this course.
